Inspiration: a Fickle Thing

“If you are working on something that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.”

— Steve Jobs

Hello Everyone, I hope your day is going well!

Yesterday was the first day in a long while I felt inspired to create more for a project. It’s been a packed few months for me, so my inspiration for this project had left for awhile. Now that things have slowed a bit, I’m so happy to get back to what I love.

Have you ever felt like inspiration for you came and left on its own time, like inspiration doesn’t care where you are in a project or what’s going on in your life? It can be a fickle thing like that.

When inspiration is here though, the world is bright and fun, which makes you smile. As an artist, I find that if I’m inspired, I have to create right in that moment; and I can’t seem to wait until later. When you live in a family of artists, you find that they have that same feeling too. However, when inspiration is away on vacation, it seems less fun and things can be harder.

Inspiration is like a fire on a cold night, if you have it you’re warm and cozy; but if it's gone, you’re cold and chilly. It lights you up and brings a sparkle to your eyes, makes you smile even when there’s imbalance.

I find the best way to feel inspired is to, in a sense, go with the flow. If I relax and stop thinking about how to feel inspired, I can actually feel it faster. It’s like the saying, “What you resist persists.“ If you are resistant to the feeling of being uninspired, then that state might very well persist.

What is inspiration for you?
